How to recover a "lost" document?

Post by lalessi »

My son was working on a report and saved it. The document froze so he closed it, now he can't find the document. I searched the forums but couldn't find anything in relation to this issue. what can we do to try and find it?

Try the methods set out in this tutorial
[Tutorial] How to find and un-delete Writer temporary files

The file, as at the time of saving, should be in the directory in which it was saved. Your son should be able to find that outside of OpenOffice - this is standard elementary computer use.
Edit: If you remember the name or part thereof, use the system file search to look for it

Thank you, we checked all the usual places and searched the name and still nothing. I thought maybe there was something I was not aware of (I don't use this program). I guess there's no way to find it.

The tutorial I referred to may help.
Try also a search for partial name - leave off the file extension.
