I want to download OpenOffice for the first time but am not sure whether to click "download full installation" or language pack. I don't need anything special as I'll just be using it on my home desktop PC to write an occasional letter and maybe do a very simple spreadsheet. Thanks for any advice.

Full installation; language pack is to change the user interface from one language to another to save redownloading a full installation.
