Java Runtime Environment for OO 4.1.4

Post by wkwarburton »

I just installed OO 4.1.4 yesterday and today tried to run Zotero, which produced a JRE is defective message. I looked under tools/options/OpenOffice/Java and it says that I have Java version 1.8.0_151 (about 1 month old) installed. I'm running 32 bit Windows 10 on an x64 based processor machine. I'm working on a proposal. Is this easy to fix or should I roll back to 4.1.3?

You need to validate if you have a 32 bit java version installed. Check the path of the java installation, if it is something like C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre1.8.0_151 it is ok, but when it is something like C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.8.0_151, you need to go to java.com and install a 32bit version of java. Download the Windows Offline version (not the Windows Offline (64-bit)).
I'm using the same JRE with AOO 4.1.4 on W7(64bit) without any issue.

I don't have any directory like Program Files (x86). So I went on line and found that if you type .java -version into the command window it will tell you if you have the 32 or 64 bit version running. I have the 32 bit version. Which makes sense because it was also needed for OO 4.1.3, which ran.
