I just read a "how to open .xlsm file on mac" and one of the suggestions was using Open Office (which I've used for about 5 years). When I open the program and choose Open (then click my file) it acts like it is loading the document but the loading bar just freezes 1/4 of the way through the bar.
Is Open Office 4.1.3 capable of opening a .xlsm document? Am I wasting my time?

An XLSM file is a macro-enabled spreadsheet created by Microsoft Excel. OpenOffice will open many .xlsx spreadsheet files but as the underlying engine is different from Excel, Excel macros will not run on OpenOffice Calc. I think you will have to find some other program (if any).
