Jiberish

Post by JiveDadson »

Windows 7
Open Office 4.1.3

After a long struggle, I un-installed and re-installed OO. Now when I open a pdf file, I see jiberish. It looks like a binary/compiled version of a PS script. What's wrong?

OpenOffice is _NOT_ a PDF reader. You should use Adobe Reader or some other dedicated PDF reader. Adobe Reader should already be installed on your computer. If you wish to make small cosmetic edits to a PDF file using OpenOffice, you should install the OpenOffice PDF editing extension.

I tried editing it in Adobe Reader, and it demanded $24.95 - for one month! I declined. I installed the extension, and I'll look for a more reasonably priced PDF editor.

Thanks for your help.

Adobe Reader is free. You may perhaps have used a trial version of Adobe Acrobat. Adobe Reader (free) can be downloaded from

Adobe Reader is free, but it is a reader. It does not allow editing.
If you want a decent editor, then I recommend Adobe Acrobat, even at the $24.95/mth pricing. It's still less than the price of a cup of coffee per day at most restaurants.
A quick look at Adobe's site also shows that there is a 7 day free trial option.

That's why I can't buy it. I must have my coffee.

Thanks everybody. I'm good.

LibreOffice Draw can import PDF files. However, no guarantee as to preserving formatting etc.
