Recover failed when saving out of space on C
I had a saved document on drive D. When I to save there was an error because C ran out of space. Now the file is corrupted and opens blank. Is there a way to recover the previous file from D? It's just blank file now.

As soon as possible do the following:
Download Recuva (Windows only) or PhotoRec for Win, MacOS, Linux and other OSes (only one needed) and let it do an in-depth recovery of deleted files on your computer. You may get a file containing some or all of your data (or not). Do this as a first priority; other use of the computer may overwrite any existing but deleted files and prevent their recovery. There is no guarantee that you will recover anything useful.

See [Tutorial] How to find and un-delete Writer temporary files for instructions on how to identify and un-delete the temporary files Writer wrote while you were editing the file, and then deleted. You should be able to recover your file as it was when you last opened it or as it was when it was last saved with AutoRecovery.
You may also find previous versions of the file in the folder it is located in, but which have since been deleted.

If you had the option Always create a backup copy in Tools>Options>Load/Save>General, you may find a copy in the /backup folder of your profile, see [Tutorial] The OpenOffice User Profile.

Nothing in backup. No temp files found. I also ran recuva in both temp folder and the folder the file was in and nothing there. Anything else I can try?John_Ha wrote:See [Tutorial]How to find and un-delete Writer temporary files

Please put your operating system in your forum signature and verify that you are actually using the obsolete OpenOffice 3.1. There are things that might work on one operating system but not others.
Temp and backup files are usually on the C: drive. Have you relocated them to a different drive? Have you cleaned up the C: drive to free up some space and avoid this problem in the future?

Yes, space is now free to prevent any further issues. Temp files and OO are on C, but file is set to save to D. I did this purposely as D has lots of free space but somehow since C ran out it corrupted the file on D.Bill wrote:Please put your operating system in your forum signature and verify that you are actually using the obsolete OpenOffice 3.1. Right-click the file on D. Is there a restore previous versions option? Have you tried that?

Any other ideas? Is this a lost cause?

Sadly, I think that all hints have been given.
