Hi
New to forum, hope to be able to receive help on this head scratcher...
Have used O.O since Sun Micro days and without issue until about a month ago, when new or past documents gave the following error when Save attempted:
"Write Error"
"Error in writing sub-document styles.xml"
This happens with both Text and Calc; my Java is up to date. I had the latest version of OO installed but in trying to solve this problem I uninstalled it and went back a few versions.
Thanks to all in advance!!!

Hi and welcome to the forum!
See [rel=search.php?keywords="Error+in+writing"+sub+document&terms=all&author=&sc=1&sf=all&sr=topics&sk=t&sd=d&st=0&ch=300&t=0&submit=Search]this query[/rel]. Rather difficult to spot something.
Try to reset your OpenOffice user profile.

Re: Write Error in OO Text, Calc
I have experienced the same save errors for several weeks on a growing number of my files. My 'workaround' is to save the offending files in the equivalent Microsoft format and that works with no problems to date - just uses extra disc space. After that success I used 'save as' to put one file back to OO format and that worked but the subsequent save, after a 'noddy' edit to the OO file, failed.
I tried the “Appsdata” delete trick, assuming it is only the OO data involved, but still got the same problem. The extensions.pmap file got recreated at the same time.
So what is the real problem????

Re: Write Error in OO Text, Calc
As said, it's very difficult to track its root cause.
I think I've never experienced this issue, either on GNU/Linux or Windows.

Re: Write Error in OO Text, Calc
I suggest removing OO completely (perhaps use Revo Uninstaller at its most aggressive) and rename the User profile. Then reboot, and install from a fresh download.

Re: Write Error in OO Text, Calc
I have followed the suggestion above and, while it worked for a couple of saves, it is up to its old tricks.

Still had the problem so each new file that failed save I saved as Microsoft equivalent. Then I got a problem where a saved file would not reload correctly due to one calculation. Looked for similar save problems and noted that ByteFence was accused of causing problems. Don't know how I got ByteFence but it is now removed and, fingers crossed, all saves are working fine.
