[Solved] Corrupted files
I only use the spread sheet & word processor. But it happens randomly, not necessarily because of shutting down. I can save the file, and exit the program. Later I can return to it and most of the times it's fine. But some of the times it asks which text format I want to use, then fills the screen with ################### and I'm stuck. In the trash files it will have file vename with "locked" next to it.

See [Tutorial] The Dreaded Pound Signs: file reduced to ####.
| Edit: There was still a crash of AOO if the lock files aren't deleted. |

Really helpful information for a dummy. I just don't understand technical issues, but I was able to turn on the back up so hopefully that & watching how I shut down will help.

For those searching See [Tutorial] How to find and un-delete Writer temporary files for instructions on how to identify and un-delete the temporary files Writer wrote while you were editing the file, and then deleted. You should be able to recover your file as it was when you last opened it or as it was when last saved with AutoRecovery. You may also find previous versions of the file in the folder it is located but which have since been deleted.
