[Solved] Unable to open open office files from desktop

Post by masterblaster »

Hi,

I am having problems when I try to access word files from my desktop folders. The dialog box 'does not exist' pops up and I have to close it about 5 times before it will close. If I go into open office first, then open the file through this path...then the file will open. Or if I write something new in open office and save it to my desk top or new location other than folder), the only way I can open it is if I go into open office and open it from the drop down file menu.

Thanks

Craig

Please read the Survival Guide to the Forum

"does no exist" does not help anyone understand what the topic is.
Please edit your post and use a meaningful title like: "Unable to access Word documents from the desktop."

Any special character in the filename ?
Have you tried to copy the content and put it in a new document ?

This sounds more like your file association for DOC files points to a non-existent executable, such as an old version of OOo that is no longer installed on your machine. As the other have said, we can help a lot easier if you tell us you OS, version of OOo, whether its DOCs in any folder or just the desktop, and assuming that you are running windows then right click on the file and select the "Open With" option. What is the default app? If you browse for the latest version OOo installed and check the "make this the default" box does that cure your problems?
Ubuntu 11.04-x64 + LibreOffice 3 and MS free except the boss's Notebook which runs XP + OOo 3.3.
