How to make a file size smaller?

Post by perkyj_99 »

Hello,
I am needing help making a file small enough to send through an online fax system but I am soooo not tech savvy. Can anyone please help me? I scanned the documents and saved them to a usb card and then I saved it onto my laptop. I have already compressed the file but it's still not small enough.
Thank you in advance to anyone who can help

For faxing (does anyone still use faxes?) a scan need be no more than 200 x 200dpi, If you have scanned at 600 x 600 dpi your scans will be 9 times too big [(600x600)/(200x200)].

K. Unfortunately, yes, I have to fax it. How can I scan it at the 200 x 200dpi?

Your scanner software should have the option of choosing a specific resolution.
Exactly where that setting is and what options you have will depend on both the scanner model and the software.

You can also use an image editing program to reduce the resolution of your faxes from 600 dpi (or whatever) to 200 dpi. It may be simpler to rescan at the lower resolution - use 200 or 150 dpi.

OT: I asked "does anyone still use faxes?" I have been privately informed that in some medical areas faxes are the preferred medium of transmission for security concerns - faxes transmit from identified machine to identified machine and are difficult to intercept, whereas emails can more easily be intercepted and are not limited to reception on an identified machine.
