Re: Crashing
You can try to reset your OpenOffice user profile.

Hagar Delest: Thank you for replying but I am a very LOW tech guy. I am using Windows 8. This problem of crashing only happens when I use the "find" feature after I hit "enter." I could not follow your instructions about going to Explorer. When I clicked on the "tools" icon, I did not see anything which said Folder and Search Options or Folder Options.

Don't know anything about Windows 8 but I guess there is somewhere a search feature. Try to type %appdata% then click "Roaming".

Re: Crashing
Sorry to hi-jack this thread but I have the same problem with crashing.
It is happening in the presentation part of OpenOffice and every time I try to move onto another slide it crashes but wont let me do anything with it.
I have tried a re-install but nothing works... any ideas?
Kind of urgent, I have a presentation I need to prepare today
Many thanks

Re: Crashing
I have been a user of Open Office for a few years and never had a problem till now. I purchased a new computer with Window 8.1 and download OpenOffice 4.1.1. It keeps freezing when using the spread sheet. I have spent hours searching the internet and tried numerous things to solve the problem but nothing helps.
Can anyone help?

Re: Crashing
I think that something in Window 8 kicks off OpenOffice. All these reports come from Windows 8 users and the problems go away when starting Window 8 in safe mode (which indicates that this is not a problem with OpenOffice alone).maynards wrote:I have been a user of Open Office for a few years and never had a problem till now. Try http://libreoffice.org/ and don't forget to tell us if this office suite runs well on Windows 8.

Downloaded libreoffic and it seems to work so far but at times when using the different tools it takes a bit and says (not responding) but at least it does not freeze for long periods of time.
