[Issue] How can I open 2 documents simultaneously?

Post by KathrinA »

Hey everybody,

Ever since I got my Macbook Air (OS.X. 10.8.5.) and installed Open Office 4.1. on it I have not been able to open two odt documents side by side and work in one of them while the other is open. When I click or type in one of the opened documents the other automatically gets minimised to the dock. Do you have any idea what settings I have to change so that this doesn't happen?

Thank you very much for your help.

Best wishes,

Kathrin

You should be able to shrink each document to half screen size by pulling their window frame. Then both should remain open at that size.

You've indeed to open the 2 documents and resize both windows.

Hi you guys,

Thanks for this advice but I have tried exactly that and although I resized both windows, when I click on one the other one automatically gets minimised to the dock.

Certainly working OK on Xubuntu 13.10 with OO 4.0.1. There may be a Mac setting to mimimise unused windows which needs to be turned off.

I would be interested in what settings exactly need to be changed? I chatted with an apple support service member and he told me the problem is open office and that there is nothing that has to be changed in the apple settings.

I can open two documents and size them to be side by side. I can work on either one, neither is minimized to the dock.
Works on both my MacBook Pro with OS X ver.10.9.1 and my MacBook with OS X ver. 10.6.8

I don't know of any setting in AOO that would change that.

I did a little Googling: there appear to be utilities that will minimise unused Mac programs to the dock - perhaps one of these is already installed? I also came across reference to a setting in Safari that seemed to do the same.
