Error saving the document General Input/Output Error!

Hello,

I started having a problem in Open Office 4.0.0 when I tried to save any .ODF document, (but I tried saving documents in Draw, and I got the same message.) when I try to save a document, I get this message: "Error saving the document General Input/Output Error." So, I thought updating O.O to 4.O.1, might solve this problem, but I am getting the SAME message in the new version. This happened out of the blue, as of several days ago: I was saving documents in 4.0.0 no problem, and then suddenly I couldn't and started getting the error message.

I have Uninstalled and Installed 2 times. I can't save any document, no matter what file extension I choose, or what program it's in. It does the same thing in Draw.

I have Windows 8.

I'm trying to make a flyer, and I can't save my work!!!

Found the problem. I updated OO to the latest version earlier today. The flaw is in 4.1.8. Now what?

There seems to be no way to recover the info. Everything I have tried has failed to work. It just keeps wanting to "recover the file" and the problem is still there. No way to resolve this issue except starting over. I have spent many days entering data and now all that work is useless.

Why oh why did I start using OO?

After posting i did some more surfing and discovered that other functions of the computer were not working. I discovered that Windows Defender can cause many problems and I couldn't turn it off.

So I restarted the computer in safe mode and then went to msconfig in the run box (would not run in regular mode). Went to the startup menu and unchecked Windows Defender. Then restarted in normal mode.

All problems resolved.

People, like me, still have the problem and will see this topic. Now they have another way to possibly fix it. It was NOT a corrupt OO file.

Then reply in a more recent topic! Plenty of them.
The issue is likely to be different at a time when Defender was not part of the system (just a guess, don't know when exactly MS Defender has been implemented).
