[Solved] Opening docs from previous versions are scrambled
Re: Opening docs from previous versions are scrambled
You may need to be logged on as Administrator. If someone else has set up the computer for you, you may not have full adminstration rights.

Use Revo Uninstaller free http://www.revouninstaller.com/revo_uni ... nload.html to remove the install as suggested earlier by RoryOF.

Re: Opening docs from previous versions are scrambled
Hi everyone. I was able to sucessfull uninstall OpenOffice 3.4.0 using Revo Uninstaller. I then was able to install LibreOffice which now opens all my former documents. So, problem solved! Thanks so much for your help. I am very grateful.

Re: [Solved] Opening docs from previous versions are scrambl
I'm trying to locate an answer to what Doug S. wrote in 2012. Like him, my older documents were changed to "OpenOffice.org 1.1 Text Document (.wpd)" when I downloaded version 3.4.1. Consequently, I cannot read these files. Is there any way of make them readable? Thanks.

If the files are .wpd files, you can try using
http://www.zamzar.com
to convert them to OpenOffice formats.

Or you can try LibreOffice (there are permanently installed and portable versions) The LO can open .wpd documents.

Your files weren't changed. The .wpd format isn't supported by AOO, so you either have to convert them to another format which is supported by AOO or use a different program to open them.mmmickey55 wrote:...my older documents were changed to "OpenOffice.org 1.1 Text Document (.wpd)" when I downloaded version 3.4.1.

I'm just trying to understand why these files got converted when I didn't do anything to them.

The files didn't get converted. The Operating System now thinks a different program should open them, which program thinks they are .wpd files. What three letter extension do the files have? Look at their access times - these haven't cahnged.

Re: [Solved] Opening docs from previous versions are scrambl
Your files WERE NOT CONVERTED. The file type designation "OpenOffice.org 1.1 Text Document (.wpd)" comes from a registry entry installed by AOO. It has nothing to do with the actual file format, .wpd, which has not changed.mmmickey55 wrote:I'm just trying to understand why these files got converted when I didn't do anything to them.
