The menu selection is File > Templates > Organise. Select "My Templates" in the left panel, Click on the button labelled 'Commands' and select "Import Template."

Also, with what browser ar you downloading them? Some versions if Internet Explorer (IE7 or IE8? i think IE8) automatically rename OpenOffice extensions from .oxt to .zip and they may need to be renamed back to .oxt.

That's for extensions. Do templates use the .oxt suffix?

No, templates use .ott. NB: Rory wrote .odt and I edited the post to show .oxt because the issue he's talking about is when IE changes ODF extensions to .zip and it usually happens with the extensions (.oxt). But perhaps he meant .ott in fact (but it's definitively not .odt).

Thanks, Hagar. I meant .oxt, as you guessed.

It is very naughty of any browser to change filenames or types; this is one of the reasons why many choose a different browser such as Firefox, Chrome or Opera.

I often post first thing in the morning, when my eyes, brain, fingers and computer are not all in gear (at least, in the same gear!). Hagar, being in France is at least an hour more awake than I am and caught my error.

On my system that posting shows up as at 13:26. This one is made at 11:55 UTC+1.

Correct. I see your last post at 12:55 for me since I'm in UTC+2.
You indeed made your typo at 13:26 (your time), so that's rather late in the morning (you said that you "often post first thing in the morning").

You can also start out with File > Templates > Organize, select/expand "My Templates" on the left side, then Commands > Import Template.

In the file dialog window that opens, you can paste the web address (URL) for the template and click OK. OOo will download the template file itself, bypassing the browser entirely, and install the template.

The only catch there is you have to be using the file dialogs that come with OOo; the standard Windows file dialog doesn't support URLs--at least that used to be the case, maybe they do by now.

To be precise, Hagar: in England 1750-1900 a "morning call" (a social visit of courtesy) could be made any time up to about 15:00 or even later if you were a close friend (to 18:00). As I read and contribute to some 19th Century literature lists my concept of morning is very flexible :-)

Ah, that's an explanation!
