Duplex Printing wiht HP OfficeJet Pro 8600

My Color Laserjet printer took a dive yesterday, loosing the engine control board which cost more than the printer. So in the interim I went and purchased an HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 that I really like, particularly XL ink cartridges that seem to have almost as much sheet capacity as the dead laser printer.

At any rate, I have spent the better part of the day trying to solve a single particular issue that appears isolated to LibreOffice.

I can use the auto duplex printing feature with everything except LibreOffice. I can even print double sided from WINE and notepad documents there. I have checked every single setting I can find. Every time I print I have to manually set the duplex printing setting from LO Writer and even when I do it still prints single sided even though I have set that particular setting through CUPS and confirmed it also set in HP Device Manager. I can print notepad files from WINE, PDF's, web pages, all in duplex. But everything from LO is single sided.

Has anyone the slightest idea as to what I am missing?

Well before turning in for the night, I tried one last thing. I forgot I had Gnumeric installed and I pulled up a template I made in LO in Gnumeric, printed it out, and Gnumeric prints in duplex mode also. So Im not sure what it is, but it sure appears to be a LibreOffice isolated thing.

I have two duplex printers (Kyocera FS1600+ and Epson Aculaser C1900) running OK in duplex under vanilla OOo 3.3 on Ubuntu 10.04 - 11:10.

Hi, I've just purchased an HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 and have exactly the same problem, I have found that if I set in LO Writer File > Print > Properties and then click on the "Device" tab. Then set Printer Langauge Type to PostScript (Level from driver). My set up then prints duplex OK. However I cannot find a way to make this the default setting. Anybody?

/File /Printer Settings?

Hi, Further investigation has revealed that using /File /Printer Settings route to change "Printer Langauge Type to PostScript (Level from driver)" also works but has the extra benefit of setting being saved with the document. Using my original workaround the setting is not saved with the document. Still the issue remains that there appears to be no way to make a permanent global change for the "Printer Langauge Type" and that the PDF driver gets the duplex printing wrong for this HP printer when using LibreOffice.

I ran into this same issue. Here's how you set it permanently:

From http://ask.libreoffice.org/en/question/ ... om-driver/
You can use LibreOffice's /usr/lib/libreoffice/program/spadmin tool to permanently change the default Printer Language for your printer(s).
Hope this helps.

Does this printer have the two-sided printer adapter installed on the back of the printer?
This is what turns the paper over.
If it does have the adapter you have to go to devices and printers on your Microsoft Windows opening page and click on the correct printer.
Here you can select on printer and a list of options comes up. click on printing preferences and select two sided printing. If two-sided printing does not show up, the two sided adapter is not installed or your computer is not capable of printing automatically on two sides. if that is not showing in your printing preference try to install HP Officejet Pro 8600 driver and check this option after installation finish
hope this will help
thank u
