Spell checker for Wedding invitation

My Spell checker is not working for my Wedding invitation - can anyone help?

I am deliberately misspelling words, then doing a spell check and it is not finding them.

You shouldn't use an email address as your user name. This board is visible to all and sundry.

Do you see the blue checkmark? What is the language in the status bar?
