[Solved] Error loading BASIC of document?

Post by DSKauai »

This was solved! But I could not find any of the symptoms anywhere including in the http://user.services.openoffice.org/en/ ... .php?t=166 when it was pointed out to me. So, I'm glad it was pointed out, but perhaps it could be made more obvious?

=======================================

I am getting a new error. Everything had been going fine, I think that I did a registry clean with CCleaner, and now when I try to open any OpenOffice file (document, spreadsheet, doesn't matter) I am receiving the following error:

OpenOffice 3.3
Error loading BASIC of document
file:///C:/Users/Mark/AppData/Roaming/OpenOffice.org/3/user/basic/dialog.xlc/:
(...) it runs off the box here, but the next line says:
General Error
General input/output error.

Now, when I hit the button to make it go away, it pops up a second time. I make that one go away, and the file... loads. Seems to load as if there's nothing wrong with it. But I'd rather not have the error button. Attempting to do it, here's what I've done:

(1) Re-installed OO using the Repair portion of install. Rebooted. Same problem.
(2) Completely uninstalled OO using IOBit Uninstaller. Downloaded a fresh copy of OO, reinstalled OO completely clean. Rebooted. Same problem.

So apparently there is some other problem lurking out there that even a fresh install didn't fix. My registry is intact, confirmed by two separate programs. So what is it that I'm missing? I've done everything that I could think of to reset it to its old state, but that obviously didn't work. (IOBit & CCleaner). You can see my signature below that I'm using Windows Vista, but again, this problem is one that just came up out of the blue, so to speak.

Thanks much, I appreciate the help.

Welcome to the forum.
The problem is in your user profile. Reset it. Click here for help how to do that.

For windows the advice about resetting the user profile didn't work you can't change the user account folder name. just delete the "OpenOffice.org" Folder under the user account:

C:\Users\<userName>\AppData\Roaming\OpenOfice.org

When you next start Ooo you will have to reenter the setup data but that is better than the annoying popup on each start

You're first person to make that claim. It works for everybody else, so please reread those instructions and try again.

If trying to change the folder name, or touch the folder in any significant way, OpenOffice must be closed.

Open the file in question. It's a particular file, isn't it?
Something in that document tries to call a macro which used to be in your profile (and clearing the profile can not restore something deleted).
Tools>Customize>tab:Events
Option "Save in": <your document in question> and <the component in question>. Look at both.
Remove all events
Please, edit this topic's initial post and add "[Solved]" to the subject line if your problem has been solved.
