Recovering an OpenOffice.org file

I was working on a document which I had been saving for some time as .doc in OpenOffice 3.1 and when I pressed SAVE, my computer or Windows 7 crashed, the screen turned blue and my computer restarted. When I openened Windows again I tried to open my file, the Recovery screen appeared but when I start the recovery it says Recovery Incorrect. Then I press NEXT and the options of ASCII FIlters show up, I just press OK and the file opens, but full of "#".
So, IS THERE ANY WAY I CAN RECOVER MY DATA? I might just kill myself if not
Thnxs!

Search for filename.bak which will be located in the user profile in the Backup folder if you have selected Always Create Backup Copy under Tools -> Options -> Load/Save -> General

A better option is to save a copy to more than one location. If you depend on the auto backup you maybe disappointed.

Sadly, you're not alone, see:
22 pages term paper replaced with pound signs.
Check also the temporary folder of the system (see in OOo Tools>Options>OOo>Paths). If there are folders like sgmlf.tmp with a file having the same name inside, make a copy of that file, rename it in .odt and cross your fingers.

I was opening the file, and my computer locked up. I was reading on here and tried some different stuff. I thought it was hopeless.
In Windows 7 What I found to work was:
Goto the File location - Right Click On The File > Restore Previous Session .... Windows searched for a bit and Then found files from the last time I saved it.
Praise the Lord!

Should work for Vista Business and Vista Ultimate, too. For Vista Home, use Shadow Explorer:
Recover Files with Shadow Copies on Any Version of Windows Vista
