[Solved] Editing Read-Only Documents

Post by dmdouglas »

I used to be able to edit a read-only document by clicking on the Edit File button. But when I upgraded to the latest version 3.3 clicking on Edit File still does not allow me to edit a document opened as read-only. I can't find any way to open a document in edit mode or edit a document opened as read-only. I'd appreciate any help!

Solution: It appears that OpenOffice converts a password-protected document to a "protected section" document. To edit, click on Format/Sections and uncheck the box by "Protected." If necessary, also click the "Edit File" icon.

Why can't you? What happens when you click that button? It should prompt if you want to edit a new copy of it.

I don't have this problem with 3.3 under Win 7 HP 64-bit. Can you get around the problem by doing a Save As?

I just ran into this with a Word document. Clicking the 'Edit File' icon made the 'Format->Sections' menu item become available (non-grayed). Unchecking the "Protected" box made it possible to edit the document.

dmdouglas, many thanks!
