[Issue] Load url bar clearance vote request

It is annoying that for so many years it has not been possible easily to remove the documents history in the load url bar function. If people would review the following requests and vote if in agreement, thank you:

Hi,

that's easily done with the extension → History Master.
You might give it a try.

You've restarted OOo?

If you activate the 'load url bar' in the toolbar, all items in the 'recent documents list' removed by the history manager are still visible in the url bar!

Hi,
  1. Did you do exactly what franx said above?
  2. After doing this, call again History Master. Does it still show recent files, or not ?
  3. Help says it may be necessary to stop OpenOffice (including Quick Starter) for the modifications to be effective. Did you try to stop + restart OpenOffice ?
  4. Your signature is not clear. History Master needs OpenOffice.org 3.1.0 or more recent.
    Do you have an OpenOffice.org downloaded from OpenOffice.org ? or one of those tweaked OpenOffice provided by Linux distributions ?
  5. Did you try to reset your OpenOffice user profile ? Of course it will clear the recent lists and other settings including extensions, but it will also provide a correct configuration.

How it works for me...
[OOo 3.2.1 vanilla on WinXP]

(1) After Apply changes:
The formerly complete Histories.xcu/("URLHistory")
[path: ...\OpenOffice.org\3\user\registry\data\org\openoffice\Office\Histories.xcu]
has changed to →

Code: Select all

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<oor:component-data xmlns:oor="http://openoffice.org/2001/registry" xmlns:xs="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" oor:name="Histories" oor:package="org.openoffice.Office">
 <node oor:name="Histories">
  <node oor:name="URLHistory">
   <node oor:name="ItemList">
   </node>
   <node oor:name="OrderList">
   </node>
  </node>
  <node oor:name="PickList">
All entries under "URLHistory" are deleted, but they are still visible in the "Load URL" list (UI).

(2) After closing OOo:
Histories.xcu/("URLHistory") has changed to →

Code: Select all

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<oor:component-data xmlns:oor="http://openoffice.org/2001/registry" xmlns:xs="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" oor:name="Histories" oor:package="org.openoffice.Office">
 <node oor:name="Histories">
  <node oor:name="PickList">
(3) After restarting OOo:
The "Load URL" list (UI) is empty →

Documents that are accessed in the 'load url bar' may not appear in the 'recent documents' list. When the historymanager extension is activated, the list of documents appears to be generated by the 'recent documents' list, because a document opened via the 'load url bar' does not appear and therefore cannot be selected for deletion.

Please read and answer the above questions.

This failure occurs after user profile is deleted as instructed. Test environment openoffice 321 as described below.

Please describe a test case--step by step--for trying to reproduce the "failure".
I can remove all "PickList" items (Recent Documents) as well as all "URLHistory" items.

Choosing both the picklist and url history does not remove the entries in the 'load url bar'. Perhaps this a problem that occurs only in gnu/linux systems. Needs further testing.

Looking at the xml file in post http://user.services.openoffice.org/en/ ... 44&start=0, I looked at mine:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<oor:component-data xmlns:oor="http://openoffice.org/2001/registry" xmlns:xs="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" oor:name="Histories" oor:package="org.openoffice.Office">
<node oor:name="Histories">
<node oor:name="URLHistory">
<node oor:name="ItemList">
</node>
<node oor:name="OrderList">
</node>
</node>
</node>
</oor:component-data>

To clarify, this is not the history.xcu in the folder /path/to/installation/openoffice/basis3.2/share/registry/data/org/openoffice/Office:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<oor:component-data xmlns:install="http://openoffice.org/2004/installation" xmlns:oor="http://openoffice.org/2001/registry" xmlns:xs="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" oor:name="Histories" oor:package="org.openoffice.Office">
<node oor:name="Histories">
<node oor:name="HelpBookmarks" oor:op="fuse" oor:mandatory="true"/>
<node oor:name="URLHistory" oor:op="fuse" oor:mandatory="true"/>
<node oor:name="PickList" oor:op="fuse" oor:mandatory="true"/>
</node>
</oor:component-data>

The attributes 'mandatory' for urlhistory and picklist were changed to false (as root user), to no effect. It seems that the load url bar and recent document history are not cleared after closure of writer, but after closure of X.

Your user data Histories.xcu file shows that there are no more traces of recent documents. So if you still see recent files names they are stored elsewhere, and this is not a feature of a standard OpenOffice.org.

Your share data Histories.xcu file is correct, and should not be modified.
