I see there is a lot of information about this recurring problem - in general
However, I have not been able to find a solution
I have never used open office before - this is a new computer with windows 7 installed
THE SPELL CHECKER DOES NOT WORK IN WRITER - I suspect it needs a dictionary but the following problems occur when trying to follow all the instructions on this site
1) No check box to click when in Paragraph style in the writer application
go to next step
2) No Engilsh ( BRITISH) dictionary in the list
next step
3) Down load the English (UK) language pack - what ever that is- the file ends up on my desk top , unpacked, but installation results in the error message incorrect o/s

So is there no English ( Uk) dictionary ?
Can I not have a spell checker if I am using Windows 7 ?

:x

See that one perhaps: [Solved] Spellcheck not working on Windows 7 x64.

Thanks to add '[Solved]' at beginning of your first post title (edit button) if your issue has been fixed.

The dictionary page of extensions does not list English ( british or UK)

I can not find the folder " User" on the file tree anywhere

Uno Packages only has one file in it : cache

You've to install it from the extension manager (Tools>Extension manager). Click the Add button and browse the system to select the .oxt.

By default, that extension is installed but it seems there is a problem with Windows 7. Ask MS why it is soooooooo complicated to use their OS.
