Saving files as Office 2007 format

Post by gixer1997 »

I'm running ver. 3.0.1 of open office on ubuntu 9.0.4. Is there a way to save office 2007 files, word, excel, etc as docx or xlsx. There's just not that option when you go to save the file and I know I can save them as the 2003 format but there shared files on my network and I'd like to keep them the 2007 format. I've looked all over and can't seem to find a direct answer to this.

Thanks for the help

Hi and welcome to the forums.

OK, direct answer: it can't do it.

OOo reads 2007 formats, but can't (currently) write to them.

If this has answered your question please go to your first post and use the Edit button, and add [Solved] to the start of the title. You can use the green tick icon at the same time if you like.

As an afterthought, it is always safer to store work in the native OOo formats (.odt and .ods etc), because of the very nature and design of the ODF file types as a non-proprietary open standard.

you can always Save As if you need to send a version to someone who doesn't have OOo, or send them a PDF.

Let's have .docx in OpenOffice.org 3.1.1, shall we? (OK, I guess that's unreasonable. How about in OpenOffice.org 3.2.0?)

It should be unnecessary to point out that the only program _guaranteed_ to be MS Word compatible is MS Word. You pays your money and you makes your choice!

If you use Ubuntu own versions based on debian builds not support docx export. Other version based on go-oo source can have export-filter for docx. The quality of export filter unknown for me, I not have MSO 2007 to check it. On win Use go-oo sources builds of OOo 3.1, from Novell or OxygeOffice, they support same export filter. This filter not in the latest dev version for OOo 3.2.

Which one? The awful MSO 2007 trash that has been rejected by the ISO boards? The "standardized" (bribed) file format which is still not published and possibly will never be implemented by any software? You know that you have to pay before you implement this bullshit? You know that undermining ODF is the main intention of Office Open XML (sic!) :?:
Why should OOo help to spread this pestilence of a file format? It's enough to read the shit and convert to something useful.

Whenever someone bothers you with that bloat and you can not afford to reject: http://zamzar.com/ is the address to go.

Yeah, I know, but who's to say the devs don't follow the boards? :super:

I quote to you from your own words:

I do believe that many people would prefer not to have to go through the PitA of going through the Web and be able to go natively.

Most users give shit on file formats since they can not understand what a file format is. They expect that any program should be able to handle their files since all the information must be in there somehow. A program that can't open the file must be stupid.
OOo's one and only main feature is the ODF file format since any team of fairly talented programmers can write software to read and write this document format. As already said, most users give a shit on file formats. They judge applications by features they already know. When some application lacks a certain feature, it is considered as not as good as the other one, completely disregarding any features waiting to be explored. If you are after features, you have to buy the MS software. If you are a little bit more technically savvy than the average MS user, then you get your job done with any other appropriate software (even faster without all that gimmicks for dummies). And you will never have to complain about unsupported file formats.
