Welcome beginner. What is your question or comment?
Please try to briefly and clearly tell us: What you want, What you tried, and What happened.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hello
I have recently upgraded my open office 2.4 to 3 and then on to 3.1on my computer which is running windows xp.
When i run open office i get the following message
"Error loading BASIC of document file:///C:/document%20and%20settings/Dad/Applicatior%20Data/OpenOffice.org/3/basic/Standard/script.xlb/:
General Error.
General input/output error."

I click ok and then I get
"Error loading BASIC of document file:///C:/document%20and%20settings/Dad/Applicatior%20Data/OpenOffice.org/3/user/basic/Standard/dialog.xlb/:
General Error.
General input/output error."

Most of the application works fine but most annoying is that it will not spell check
2.4 was great and never a hitch
Please help, at least with the spell check
Many thanks
John Urch

Several threads about this kind of issue. Better reset your OOo user profile. But during the welcome process, don't transfer your personal data, former configuration files might corrupt the new profile (this is indeed the case IMHO).

Or see here: [Solved] Error when starting OpenOffice 2.3.

Thanks to add '[Solved]' at beginning of your first post title (edit button) if your issue has been fixed.

Thank you very much for the assistance.
Resetting the user profile has fixed the error message problem.
However I still can not get the spell checker to work.
Clicking the abc icon starts it running but it just claims I have spelt everything correct.
Your advice as always would appreciated.

I tag this thread as solved. For the spell check issue, see here first: [Tutorial] Spell check and Language configuration and if you've a problem, create a new thread telling us what you've done and what doesn't work.

I have exactly the same problem and I don't understand a word of all of this. I have tried system restore to get my old 2.4 back, but that doesn't work despite having set up a restore point before installing Oo3. I cannot work out how to put the registry right. I am obviously not techie so don't blind me with gobbledygook! I have open Office 3 working fine on Vista, but not on XP. I have to teach Impress and PowerPoint this week. I can't use the Vista machine because it has Office 2007 - a nightmare for beginners, so I need to use the computer with 2003 and open Office. I wish I'd never updated.

Yes I have read it all and used the links. I don't know how you do all this! I don't understand what I have to click on. The language goes over my head!

What is the problem with reseting your OOo user profile?
