Post by GideonW »

URGENT HELP NEEDED

I had a long document of 70 pages and somehow I managed to selcect All and then write over it so that now I have only about half a page of the new text. Is there any way at all of retrieving what I saved the previous day or now that I have written over it is it all lost?

AHHH

Thank you

It's not likely OO can rescue this for you. The only chance is looking in your profile folder, for a subfolder called 'backup'. I don't where this is on Linux but in WinXP it's within the application data folder. However the main reason a complete backup file would be here is if you have the following option checked (and it is not checked by default...):

Tools->Options->Load/Save->General->'Always create backup copy'

Did you try an "undo" after you did that? Maybe you didn't realize what had happened at the time.

If you haven't saved the file, of course your last-saved document should be intact.

OOo does make an auto-save file (in the backup folder as bobban already mentioned) every 15 minutes by default. However once you exit OOo, that will be removed.

I've used software that would actually stop making auto-save files when the size of the document decreased drastically like this, just to try and protect against losing work like this. It would warn you when that happened. I think OOo could use some enhancement in this area.
