Hebrew Language Pack?

Post by sduncan4 »

Hi,

Is there a possibility of getting a Hebrew language pack? I didn't see one on the language pack downloads page... Thanks!

Did you check here?

My Hebrew is rudimentary, and in particular I don't know, what is Hebrew for “language pack”, but maybe it's there.

Thanks. I think that is a version of OpenOffice which is entirely in Hebrew ... I want the buttons and menus and everything in English but the option to type in Hebrew.

Then you don't need any language pack. You need to set up an appropriate input method/keyboard layout.

Hi,

Is there a way to do this on Windows Vista? I was told that to be able to type in Hebrew using Microsoft Office, I would have to download (purchase) a Hebrew language pack, so I assumed it was the same for all office programs.

This is a reply to esperantito;

One of the key points here is that one needs to be able to type from right to left. Without support for Hebrew text/typing, one literally has to type backwards, and have oddly formatted paragraphs, etc.

I've got so used to just using a good Hebrew font and knowing the keyboard layout that I've stopped checking for Hebrew support. Of course, that means I've gotten good at typing backwards after ten years of word processing (first with WordPerfect, then MS Word, and now OO Writer), with Hebrew text often included in my documents. Like I said, I then have to format it afterwards, usually line by line.

installing a full language support:

System --> Administration --> Language Support
then in the next window:
--> Install/Remove Languages...
then in the next window:
--> Hebrew (and here I added everything I could, Translations, Spellchecking and writing aids, Extra fonts)

Now I can type and indent and everything is just as I like it.

Hope I helped.

In OpenOffice you should have CTL support enabled at Tools>Options...>Language Settings>Languages

If you want to type in niqqud check out this Wikipedia entry:
