Obtaining and installing latest version of OpenOffice

When I am in OpenOffice and click on Help to obtain latest updates, the updates window opens and it starts to obtain an update, but then clicks and says no updates available. I have OpenOffice verision 2.2., that I orginally installed. However when I go to the OpenOffice.org website it is now providing OpenOffice ver 2.3.1. for a download/install. How do I get the latest version update to my computer?
