I was trying to download openoffice 2.3.1.Instead of 120MB the actual downloaded file was only about 28MB and the installation failed with some 'corrupt installation file ' error message. Could anybody show the way out?

Obviously the download didn't complete.
Try again. If you're on dial-up get a friend to download it for you and put it on a USB drive or CD.

You should also use a download manager so that it can resume an interrupted download.
