Problems retrieving document
Problems retrieving document
i created an extensive list of information. but now when i click on it it starts to open and i can see the information for a couple of seconds and then it disappears. if i look in most recent documents it does not show up. then it offers to recover it but the same thing happens again. is there anything i can do to bring it back.
thanks
thanks
open office 4.1.10 and windows 10
Re: problems retrieving document
It may not show on Recent Documents because it has not yet been written to that list (for various reasons); outside of OpenOffice, see if the file is present in the folder in which it was Saved.
Apache OpenOffice 4.1.15 on Xubuntu 22.04.4 LTS
Re: Problems retrieving document
it shows up in windows explorer but does not open or appears with message to initiate recovery which if i do it still loads briefly and then disappears. i am trying to figure out a way that i dont have to retype the whole thing as i do have a hard copy. thanks

Re: Problems retrieving document
2 options:
1) Reset your OpenOffice user profile: viewtopic.php?f=74&t=99158
2) Drop OpenOffice in favour of its successor https://www.libreoffice.org/discover/li ... penoffice/

Re: Problems retrieving document
Can you upload the file so that we try? If bigger than 128KB, use a 3rd party web site for file sharing.

Re: Problems retrieving document
3rd option:
Copy your file and change the extension to.zip
Open the .zip and extract content.xml
Your data will be somewhere inside content.xml.
For a first glimpse you may use firefox to read.
You may need a better editor for XML to get your data copied...

2 reasons why this is not an option:Mountaineer wrote:3rd option:

1) This requires a certain level of computer skills we can not presume.
2) He did not mention any error message about invalid XML in content.xml
Installing LO fixes most of these issues and they do not come back in most cases. If they come back, LO offers to reset the profile for you or start in some kind of "safe mode".

Re: Problems retrieving document
As advised by Villeroy, try LibreOffice, at least a portable version if you don't want to replace AOO until you're sure it better suits your needs.

Re: Problems retrieving document
I think LO's "safe mode" uses a temporary, dummy, clean user profile which means it isn't corrupted and no extensions are loaded.Villeroy wrote:LO offers to reset the profile for you or start in some kind of "safe mode".
This thread seems similar to Why does OpenOffice constantly crash? where it looks like a corrupted profile. It seems strange to have two seemingly identical problems together.
