[Solved] I can't copy and paste between two documents

Post by TrappedDean »

I have open office version 4.1.9. sweden and my pc is a chromebook.
Im trying to copy and paste text between two open office documents but it wont paste. i only get a message that says [önskad urklippsformat inte tillgänglig]
Edit: English translation: desired clipboard format not available
-- MrProgrammer, forum moderator
I can paste the text anywhere else.
I tried other solutions but it wont work. I don't know if my document is read-only but i dont think so, because i can writ in it normally.

i don't know if this is related but the problem began when i had to do a dokument with alot of URLs.

UPDATE: I tried updating to the newest version but it didn't work

Hi and welcome to the forum!

If you paste in another application (text editor) and then copy that again (from the text editor) and paste in AOO, does it work?
Several topics about this issue but no clear root cause AFAIK. A clipboard manager may be the problem.
I would say that it occurs less with LibreOffice but it does happen sometimes.

Sociala medier är en plats där civila och företag lägger ut information om sig själva.
De mest populära sociala medier är [facebook], [twitter], [instagram], [youtube].
Men det finns många fler sidor och de blir bara fler allt eftersom tiden går.

Its too bad because i really like open office. and i need it for my homework. and would i rather not use words.

Translated into English by Google, that looks reasonably normal. What were you expecting?
 Edit: google translation looks like

Social media is a place where civilians and companies post information about themselves.
The most popular social media are [facebook], [twitter], [instagram], [youtube].
But there are many more pages and they just get more as time goes on.

Have you tried to Paste special? Unformatted text should be the most robust.

Can you upload a sample file so that we test (see How to attach a document here)?
Just to see if it works better in LibreOffice.

By the way: your signature indicates that you are using Linux. Why don't you use the pre-installed LibreOffice? LibreOffice is the new OpenOffice. https://www.libreoffice.org/discover/li ... penoffice/

LO is the same program that OO could be if it had not lost most of its developers. Linux desktop distributions come with a pre-installed LO but not OO because it is impossible to cooperate with a project that has almost died several years ago.

Just a page with the string that you can't paste. We will try with another version of AOO/LO.
+1 for LibreOffice. I suggested that we try first to avoid you replacing AOO by LO with no change.

You have to add [Solved] at the beginning of the title in your first post (top of the topic) with the *EDIT button. I've done it for you.

Don't hesitate to create a new topic if you find weirds things in LO, both codes are still very similar.

If you don't like the font, which is Liberation Serif, simply change it. Your document, your computer, you using it - you are in control.

This document will be helpful for those starting to use OpenOffice or LibreOffice

Personally, I've changed the icon theme (to Elementary) and reduced the size to get a look closer to what I was used to.
But there is clearly a problem with the font used for the UI in your case. The Tools > Options > LibreOffice > View panel may be worth playing with (Graphics Output).

I can't answer specifically about Calc, which is OpenOffice's spreadsheet application. While Calc and Excel have similar functionality for most non complex purposes, there are differences; I believe any "Introduction to Excel" or "Spreadsheets for Beginners" type book of the past 30 years will cover much of what a beginner needs to know, with minor adjustments, such as use of ";" in place of ",".

Because Calc and Excel are based on different underlying code, Excel Macros will not easily transfer to Calc.

A quick search found this, specifically for Calc.
http://www.pitt.edu/~poole/libreofficeT ... esson4.pdf

Other chapters in the same work (not investigated) might be of use for the remaining applications of OpenOffice.
