[Solved] I can't install OpenOffice because setup just stops

Post by mipak »

hi ...

first of all, my thanks to the person who enabled me to gain access to this forum ... was unable to simply login or when i attempted to re-register ... i was going around in circles. your email to me was a big help.

have just re-installed my w7 and have attempted to installed openoffice 418 more times than i care to think of and because each time, the process just stopped a couple of minutes after setup.exe then i attempted to install v417 and got the same result.

each time, a message came up on screen and quoted a file called 'vcredist_64.exe'. in the past few years, i've had no problem with oo installations so why this should be happening now, i have no idea.

is 'vcredist_64.exe' part of the installation or could it a file within my w7.

either way, i would have no idea as to how to solve this problem and would very much appreciate any help please.

apart from this awful virus that is all around the world, i hope you all had a lovely new year and wish everyone the very best for 2021.

hope to hear from anyone please.

michael.

It seems to be linked to the Package redistribuable Microsoft Visual C++.
Try to (re)install it.

Please add [Solved] at the beginning of the title in your first post (top of the topic) with the *EDIT button if your issue has been fixed.

thank you for your post.

i know nothing of "Package redistributable Microsoft Visual C++" except that i know that it's used to write code for websites

as regards a re-installation ... do you want me to attempt to do that with openoffice 418 again?

No, search the web for the package mentioned and download it from the Microsoft site to install.
Perhaps it is already installed and you need to repair it.

hi ... thanks for your reply ...

i found the site from which i can download the package but although it mentioned 64bit, it also said for w10 as well.
if i download w10 version, will it work for w7 too? some programmes allow that.

till next time ...
thanks.

Don't know since Win 7 is not supported anymore. If it doesn't then check if there are older versions.

Did you include "Windows 7" in your search? I don't know if MS still provides the redistributable for Windows 7.

You are incredibly vulnerable if you are running W7.

W10 has much code in common with W7. When a security patch for W10 is issued, hackers reverse engineer it to see if the code fixed by the patch is in W7. If it is it won't get fixed and they do a targeted attack on W7.
