Re: OpenOffice with OneDrive
Are there sysnchronized copies of the files on your local drive? Try to open them. What I cant seem to make work is the previously installed OneDrive
Or try to install the LibreOffice. It has a new feature: Open Remote files. You can add remote storage places to the LO:

Re: OpenOffice with OneDrive
I have little trouble using OneDrive with OpenOffice/LibreOffice. The only "disturbance" is that the lockfiles have characters in the filename which are not allowed in the cloud service, so I get warnings about unsynchronized files. The warnings go away as soon as I close the files. As long as concurrent access to the cloud content is not required, this is not an issue. I haven't tried LibreOffice's remote storage option which Zizi64 mentions. That may resolve the issue, should it represent a problem for you.
So...
So...
- Do you have the OneDrive sync installed and activated, or do you need to open a web browser to view your files?
- If OneDrive sync is running, do you have internet access so files are actually available?
- If you see a cloud status icon on the file entry, it means "files on demand" is activated, which will download the file when you request it. Internet connection is required for this.
- How are you trying to open your files?
- Double click in the file manager
- Click in the web browser
- File - Open from inside an OpenOffice app
- Is your computer updated? Sometimes with pending updates, some functionality is blocked.
Re: OpenOffice with OneDrive
Does that mean that lock files can not do what they are intended to do? Could that be a reason why we see so many destroyed files from Windows systems?keme wrote:The only "disturbance" is that the lockfiles have characters in the filename which are not allowed in the cloud service, so I get warnings about unsynchronized files.

Re: OpenOffice with OneDrive
I think the lock files only make an open file read-only to second users/access.
The damaged files showing the ### sequence seem to arise from over-hasty or improper shut down of the file and computer - usually the ### indicates that the space has been allocated by the zip utility building the file, but that space has not yet been written to with the content of the file.
It is possible that with increasing use of SSD or NVMe (high speed) storage we will see less of such corrupt files.

It may be a cause in very special situations.Villeroy wrote:Does that mean that lock files can not do what they are intended to do? With OpenOffice you are working against local storage, a synchonized folder where the lockfiles are created without problem. The lockfile will do its thing on that computer, restricting concurrent access.
Lockfiles will not be synchonized to cloud storage, so if you share a file with others, or work on the synchonized file from a different station, and the two are open concurrently, I suspect that bad things may happen. It still happens to separate copies of the file (cloud sync is a "copy/restore" operation) so the file integrity should be maintained. Working on the file from the cloud based Word app is perhaps the most likely culprit.
If the issue also exists with LibreOffice and "remote storage" (saving directly to OneDrive), this has a greater potential for error.
I haven't done any experiments on this. Interesting though it may be, it does not happen today ...
