OpenOffice lost document? Followed with Hashtags

Postby Elizabethb » Tue Jan 14, 2020 7:44 am

I have windows 10. I have open office 4.1.2. Recently crashed. I can create other documents and save as needed, but the one document that is very important to me is gone. And completed with hashtags. I've read all kinds of things online and tried some things, but I am not an expert. Worked fine a few days ago. Please help.

For the future working:

- Always use the native, International Standard ODF file formats.
- Never work directly on a removable media (thumbdrive, etc...)
- Always (and often) create more than one (timestamped) backup copies for your important documnets.

Try the methods in this tutorial
See [Tutorial] How to find and un-delete AOO temporary files for detailed instructions on how to

a) use Previous Versions (W7 and later) to recover previous versions of the file (is there something similar on MacOS and Linux?);

b) recover your file as it was when you last opened or saved it, or as it was when it was last saved with AutoRecovery;

c) find previous versions of the file in the folder it is located in, but which have since been deleted;

d) un-delete the temporary files AOO wrote while you were editing the file, and then deleted. This will recover your file as it was when you last opened or you last saved it.

Do this as soon as possible to avoid the possibility of files being over-written. Waste no time with your existing file; there will be nothing usable in it.

For future peace of mind, consider installing and using the Time stamped backup extension. Or implement some other backup strategy for all your files.
Cheers
