Open Office on 600 Laptops,

Post by bilalg »

Madani High School is based in Leicester, England, UK. We are in the process of purchasing 600 Laptops which will enable every student access to a computer, because of rising licensing prices, we have discussed the possibility of migrating to Open Office for all 600 Laptops. I would like advice on how to roll out the software on the laptops and also the advantages over Microsoft Office of this move which I can present to the teaching staff and governing body. I would very much appreciate a response and how we can move forward. Open Office will be new to students and teaching staff, can I download training manuals to support our users?

Regards.

Bilal.

I have deleted your other two posts. One post is enough. This seems to be the most appropriate subforum for your question.

It might be worth checking this list:

There might be some UK schools you can contact on this list... they might have some deployment advice since they have already done what you are planning to do.

The OOoWiki has a nicely written document on OOo Migration. It also outlines some of the major differences between OOo and MSO:

I am a solo migrator to OOo from MSO (97 on my old home computer and 03 is what I use at work). The pdf of the migration guide is about 150 pages. I found it useful and I had used Excel and Word for many years (and WordPerfect and Lotus 1-2-3 prior to that)
