This can happen when a post is deleted between the times the two screens have been drawn. One needs to check the moderator logs to see what has happened, User "Vexed" deleted his post at about that time - that might be what happened.

"0 new messages" is a link. Clicking it opens the user's Private messages Inbox.

The circled-in spots are about different things, like Bill and Bidouille commented. However, the second image says "no suitable matces were found", which is a mismatch to the "new posts" count in the first.

I have also seen this a couple of times, and that for a while you can even go back and forth, updating the pages, and the discrepancy persists. I suspect that the reason for this persistent contradiction is that the summary (count) is on a cached page which is only refreshed periodically (once a minute or so, perhaps), while the detailed info (post list) is created afresh every time.
