Suggested edits of other posts

I know that there is limited value to this and it isn't a wiki site but it might be useful to be able to suggest changes on other posts. This came up today when I noticed a couple grammar / spelling issues on some higher profile posts. I know that I would want to be flagged if someone ran across issues with one of my posts. The internet is forever and it also casts the forum in a better light when there are less spelling and grammar issues.

I often silently correct typos in posts from important contributors. Sometimes I may silently add a word to clarify a meaning in a posting from a contributor who is not a native English speaker.

The Moderator Code of Conduct covers the matter of editing posts. Please let me know if that link doesn't work.

You can use the Report this post feature (top right of each post), then a moderator will take care of the correction.
I often edit posts silently too, especially titles.
It can also be used to spot topics that should be tagged solved.

When I edit a post silently I am careful, as I am sure Hagar is also, not to change the author's meaning, merely to clarify his expression. Often such posts are not from native English speakers and may contain an awkwardness of grammar or spelling. If I disagreed with the overall posting I would reply with a detailed posting.

As to why I do not always flag such corrections, doing so may double the quantity of work involved, which can be a burden with Real Life baying at the door.

+1 with Rory for all comments.
It's true that in the moderator code of conduct, we wrote that we should indicate the kind of change. It's so often a typo that I do that only when tagging topics with [Solved] or [Issue] in case the OP ask who did it (when they disagree).

Ok I thought "Report post" seemed a little too severe for just a grammar or spelling edit, but I will use that button to report errors I found. Thanks!

I have done what I figured was the polite approach: sent a PM to the poster.

I realize that, as you don't see who else sent such a message (which usually is the point of going "private"), you may be one of many notifiers, contributing to what may be taken as flaming by the receiver. However, this site has moderate traffic, so I assumed that a flood of PMs was not very likely.

Will use the report button instead, from now on.
