Information pack for new users pointing to manuals etc

Post by John_Ha »

It is so long since I joined that I cannot remember if this already happens.

If it is not already done, I think it would be a good idea to give joiners an "short information pack" of useful information when they sign up. It does not have to be much - say something like:
As a new user you will find much useful information in the Writer FAQ, the Writer Tutorials, the up to date Writer guide and the OOo v3.3 Writer Manual. When a pop-up window opens, click the Help button for extensive help on that function - it is often more comprehensive than the manual.

Also, please always search the forum before posting a query as the same questions get asked again and again and again and again ...

Please also see Survival Guide for the forum
LO 6.4.4.2, Windows 10 Home 64 bit

See the Writer Guide, the Writer FAQ, the Writer Tutorials and Writer for students.

Remember: Always save your Writer files as .odt files. - see here for the many reasons why.

Good idea!

I believe new users get a link to the Survival Guide; if so, it should be possible to expand that, but I'm not sure where to make the change. I don't see it in the admin control panel.

I don't think so.

Perhaps a dedicated link in the Beginner section like the link to the Getting Started Guide for 3.x but pointing to a post in the forum that gives pointers to the new articles.

That should work, although I'm not sure how many people go looking inside the Beginner area.

Would it make sense to add a link to the "docs" post from the Survival Guide? Or maybe another item under the Survival Guide in the board index page?

Sure, an additional post in the survival guide would do.
I very often move topics from the beginner section to the relevant section, that's why I think it's a good start also. But we can do both.
