[Solved] Problem with redirection for FAQ

Post by Horus »

I hope the webmaster in charge of http://documentation.openoffice.org or http://wiki.services.openoffice.org is reading this post.

I went to a wiki page at http://documentation.openoffice.org/faq ... a/005.html

The page is displayed for a few second and suddenly, the FAQ page is displayed instead!

After some further tests, it seems there's an unconditional redirection: whatever valid URL starting with http://documentation.openoffice.org/faqs will be redirected to the new FAQ page.

This is very annoying to users. Could the webmaster just redirect the old FAQ homepage to the new FAQ homepage? Or redirect every old FAQ page to the corresponding new FAQ page?

Thanks a lot

The pages seem to be accessible by following the links on the right hand side of the FAQ. In the case of the page you are looking for, follow Formula editor and on that page you are offered "How do I align my equations at the equality sign"
http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wik ... ty_sign%3F
which seems to be the page you are seeking.

Well, I don't know why you changed the starting point. My discussion based on the link I posted and you put in another one. The discussion is pointless.

Well, actually, before I posted my message, I had already found the page. And that's not my point. My points are:
1. bad user experience: users go to the original URL and then suddenly "teleported" to somewhere else.
2. bad redirection: all old URL are redirected to the same new URL. This is simply wrong. Professional web sites would have never done so.

No. This forum is not part of the main OOo site.

If your point is only about the redirection the explanation is rather simple:
Outdated.png
Then the user just has to type some keywords and that's all. Or browse the menu at the right to search the same section in the new version.
OK, not definitively professional, but well, ask for a refund...
