Drop down choices for files?

I have OpenOffice at my job, but I am not able to activate the drop down menu when I want to open a file.
In contrast, if I open a file at home that is "Catastrophe Tax", as I start to type the "C-a-t" other possibilities that start with the same letters will appear in a drop down menu. However. the drop down menu of suggested files does not open when I am using Open Office at my job. (sorry for the repetition)

My best guess is the nut that's resting on the keyboard. (that would be me)
Suggestions? Thoughts? Solutions?

You don't mention whether you have Windows at work as well as at home; if so check both computers for the setting of Tools | Options | OpenOffice General under Open/Save Dialogue Boxes
