[Solved] Is Libre Office sharing these OO Forums

Postby MikeytheMagnificent » Wed Sep 23, 2015 12:19 am

I find no equivalent extended Community Forum for LO perhaps I'm not looking properly, perhaps, indeed they are sharing at least for now.

A link would be appreciated if appropriate

Many thanks

From a user's perspective both applications are still the same regardless of the efforts undertaken by the LibreOffice team. They waste too much time with foreign file formats and pointless improvements.

http://ask.libreoffice.org/en/questions/ is OK because some of the contributing folks come from this forum.

(Off topic?) Dear Villeroy, LibreOffice seems to not only waste time with "foreign file formats and pointless improvements". To day I revisited an old thread in the "inofficial forum" (http://en.libreofficeforum.org/node/10805) and found the annoying bug it discussed fixed in LibO Calc V5.0.2. The bug wasn't even reported properly. Openening the example files with AOO4.1.1 you will still experience the bug.

Away with skimish and petty competitor's jealousy! ORACLE/Apache should clean up the few (?) licensing/direction problems and start a campain together with The Document Foundation. Why shouldn't the branches reunite? It's time for the final UFO. Fragmentation will continue to endanger migration. Can you tell me better news?

(And taking at least the import of alien formats earnest is necessary, I think. Or do you think MS will ease the migration of their customers to free solutions by implementing odf at their best? With respect to export things may be different.)

I've had bad experiences with LO. 3.3. worked for me, 3.4 didn't, 3.5 worked for me, 3.6 had inacceptable and unconfigurable changes which why I switched back to old and ugly but stable AOO. Today I deploy LO 4.4 to "my girls" because they prefer the green one while using AOO in private. LO 4.4 happens to work fairly well after translating two macros from Python2 to Python3. Testing and reporting bugs to LO is a pain because many volunteers do not know their own product well enough.
I'll try LO 5 next year. Personally, I do not need any form of compatibility with MS Office. I could work with OpenOffice.org 1.5 (earliest ODF version) almost as well as with the latest version of any ODF suite. In our office we use LO for our own stuff on screen and on paper. No colaboration with any foreign file formats apart from very rare cases where I am the one to deal with that or reject the files. MS viewers are installed as default applications for MS documents. The two projects will not merge. More likely, AOO will die and LO will recognize that virtually none of the former OpenOffice users ever heard about LibreOffice.

Some may not know that there are 'fresh' and 'still' versions of LibreOffice. The 'still' version is said to be the more stable and tested. The latest 'still' version (when I checked last week) is 4.4.5.

Is that "Fresh" as in fizzy or carbonated ? and does that mean reverting to version 4 to benefit.
Thanks Kingfisher

Try LO 4.4.5. Apart from some midless MSOffice mimicry, it does a very good job. If you need help on this forum and you know that you have an LO specific problem, we have also a subforum for LO: https://forum.openoffice.org/en/forum/v ... .php?f=101
In any case you should mention which software and version you are using.

I think both sides are too committed to their not-quite-compatible licenses to simply merge.

@Villeroy: has your new avatar always had a cartoon canine component? I only just noticed it. Sneaky!

Pluto's heart shaped area
When the "New Horizons" space ship passed Pluto, everybody was excited about that "heart shaped structure" and how to explain it. Well, quite obviously it's Pluto, the best friend of Mickey Mouse.

According to wikipedia, the dog was named after the planet. I believe it was the other way round.

If that's the case, then the dog is named after the Roman god of death.
Apologies for reviving an old thread.

Pluto was the keeper of the underworld (which was not like the "christian" hell). Quite a good job for a dog.
