I am an online instructor who uses OpenOffice. Many students are purchasing Chromebooks.

Is there an online version of OpenOffice? If so, does it include all components (i.e., database)?

No. OpenOffice must be downloaded and installed locally.

Look at www.rollapp.com. They have OO Writer available as an offline app on Chromebook. I have downloaded it for testing and I am having issues saving a document, so check it out carefully. I suspect that the files are saved only on their cloud server.

A database deserves its own service. Databases are radically different from documents. IMHO (don't know much about it) you can build a cloud service on a database but not the other way round.

I looked at the software products that rollApp has online and the OO database, draw, writer, and presentation packages are there. It appears that you have to sign up for a premium package at $5.99/mo. to save files to your Google Drive, Box, or Dropbox. The free level of service allows a user to view OO files saved on a another device where the file was generated if you are away from that device. Interesting approach to having software available from a cloud server. Hope this helps!

OpenOffice Writer online for word documents. OpenOffice Writer online is an extension that allows to create, edit and view any Microsoft Word document in both doc and docx formats. It allows to create large documents, reports, and books, and simple enough for a quick memo.

OpenOffice Writer online for word documents.
Warning!
Maybe it is a not checked, not controlled, unofficial LibreOffice clone.
See at 1:08 in the Help Menu. It refers to the LibreOffice, but uses AOO icons.

Warning!
Never save your important documents into foreign, obsolete file formats!!!
Always use the international ODF file formats. Create a copy (at the end of the editing) into other file fomat - if it is necessary anyway. But always reopen to edit the ODF version.
