[Solved] Is anyone running OpenOffice 4.1.1 on Windows 10?

Post by 2Piedrasmore »

I understand that Windows 10 is not on the list of supported OS, but I'm curious if anyone using windows 10 is also using OpenOffice and if so, how is it holding up. I sure don't want to sign up for Windows 10 if I will lose this wonderful software.

While I don't have Windows 10 at home, we recently got it where I work and I use OO at work on Windows 10.
So far, no issues that are specific to the Windows 10 OS. All of the issues that I have encountered have also been encountered by others running Windows 7+

I've used AOO and LO on Windows 10 for several weeks and have seen no obvious differences between running on Windows 8/8.1 and running on Windows 10.

I installed Windows 10. OpenOffice took it on the chin. Spreadsheets will suddenly stop functioning. Text will implode randomly. The program hangs or simply shuts down on its own. Once I get it to come up again, it will recover most of the files but there is always one that has to be saved independently. I've completely removed the program and then downloaded the most recent version and installed it, but nothing improves. Can't go back to 7. Is there a fix?

Did you reset the user profile? That's usually the first thing to try when things in AOO "suddenly stop functioning".

A previous reply suggested resetting the user profile. Can you specify which user profile you mean, is this the Windows 10 user profile or an OpenOffice user profile.

I upgraded to Windows 10 yesterday and so far have been unable to get Open Office working. I have updated to OO 4.1.2, I have uninstalled, reinstalled etc, rebooted, etc. But I cannot edit documents, either previously created documents or using a new document. I can created a new document and see the cursor flashing but as soon as I hit any key, I get Programme Not Responding and have to force quit.

thanks for any suggestions.

I've now given up on Windows 10 as I tried LibreOffice too and exactly the same problem. Then I tried to change the Windows 10 user profile and again, even that programme froze in exactly the same way as OO, ie, as soon as I made a keystroke. Has anyone any idea what is going on please?

Since your problem seems to be in Windows 10, you should go to a Windows 10 forum and search for "not responding".
