[Solved] PDF convert to OpenOffice 4.1.0 doc not happening

Post by Waspman123 »

Hi All,

I'm a newbie to the site and openoffice, I'm trying to convert Pdf file saved in my windows 7 pro
to openoffice, I've tried downloading an extension manager when I try to enable it comes back with an error
messege saying loading component libary failed and the file address.

Any help on this would greatly appreciated.

Thanks Guys.

PDF is a final output format. It, deliberately, is intended to be impossible to edit.

You cannot convert it to Writer or any other word processor format. I believe AOO has limited abilities to edit a pdf file in the Drawing module but that is it.

If you need the document(s) converted to an editable format the only ways that I am aware of is a) run the document through some Optical Character Recogniton (OCR) software or b) rekey it.

Sorry

The PDF import extension has a special version for OO 4.x. Look for the link on the download page.

As jrkideau says, PDF needs to be OCRed before you can do substantial editing.

Cheers Guys

I went down the OCR route, all done now but I did end up
Re-keying a half of it.

I'll be doing some flyers soon, let's hope they'll be easier in openoffice.

Cheers

OCR accuracy very much depends on the OCR engine. I've used Omnipage and ReadIris quite satisfactorily with Windows. I now use Tesseract with Linux. Accuracy is about 99%; careful proofing is necessary, especially where there are figures involved.
