Welcome beginner. Please answer all of the questions below which may provide information necessary to answer your question.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Which version of OpenOffice.org are you using? 3
What Operating System (version) are you using? Multiple, this doesn't pertain to my question.
What is your question or comment?

Well my first question is what language was it programmed in, as i was told it's java. But on the site it states "The source is written in C++ and delivers language-neutral and scriptable functionality, including Java(TM) APIs.". So C++ or java?

also, is it fully compatible with powerpoint?

Compatible with PowerPoint: about 90%. Like not two software for the same purpose can be fully equal, Impress and PowerPoint have a lot in common. But remember that we and the Great Apes have 90%+ common DNA, and we are not exactly identical...

C++, about one millions lines in total. You can download the source yourself form the OOo website. The base DB engine uses a FLOSS component HSQL which is encoded in Java.
