How to create a shortcut to a specific folder from an icon visible on the desktop?
I find it tedious to have to go to open source, open, and then select specific folder.
Excel allows creation of shortcut on desktop.
Is there nothing available?

Re: shortcut icon on desktop
This is an operating system function. Right click on your desktop and choose / New / Shortcut and set up the parameters as you wish them.

That should work with any application, but it does clutter up your desk-top unless you create a new folder and keep them all in there.

Right-click the folder and select Sent to > Desktop (create shortcut). This has been in the right-click menu for files and folders since at least Windows 98.
