Loss of file

Post by Woodworker »

On recalling a file of a monthly Nesletter I write I was confronted with pages and pages of just hashes (160 pages compared with teh original 8) but with file sizes the same (+/-900Kb). What did I do and is the original file recoverable? Please help!!

Hi and welcome to the forum!

Sadly, nothing to do: 22 page term paper replaced with pound signs.
But for several files at once, that's rather strange. Were all the files opened at the same time? Any special event (power failure, ...)?

Check the temporary folder of the system (see in OOo Tools>Options>OOo>Paths). If there are folders like sgmlf.tmp with a file having the same name inside, make a copy of that file, rename it in .odt and cross your fingers.

Else, nothing to do I fear.

If you're still running 3.1 then upgrade to latest 3.3.0, there much fewer reports of this kind since 3.3. What version of Windows by the way?

Sorry, I've copied and pasted a message from another topic and hadn't noticed it was talking about several files. But problem is the same.

I assume that you also did not have the auto backup turned on.
