[Solved] Hacking Warning

Post by dpyall »

I have just received a telephone call purporting to be from microsoft telling me to run CMD then enter assoc at the CMD prompt, look at the longest line, which is an open office target clsid. The caller then tried to convince me that it was my computer id and that he knew it beacause he was from microsoft. Be Warned. If you believe the caller you will be part of a bot net.

Good advice!

I've seen reports, and had one call myself, of people claiming to be MS-authorized security service, who offer to help do some "clean up" of your computer.

Anyone who contacts you with an offer for some service should be considered a scam. You never know who you're really dealing with unless you initiate the call, knowing that you have the correct phone number of a legitimate service.
