How to play music during a slide show

Postby maryannbaiyor » Thu Nov 10, 2011 5:31 am

I have read all the previous posts on this topic but either I don't understand them or they're not working for me. I've got an Open Office slide presentation and an mp3 file. I found these instructions on the forum:

You can use the Slide Transition pane to set up Impress so that a sound or a song is played throughout the presentation. To do that:
1) Select the slide where you want the sound to start and go to the Slide transition pane.
2) In the Modify transition section, select the entry Other sound from the Sound drop-down menu.
3) Select the Loop until next sound checkbox if you want the sound to restart once it is finished.

Caution: Do NOT click the Apply to all button, otherwise your selected sound will restart at every slide.

First, I have no idea what "impress" is. I did use the steps above, but when the slide show begins, it plays for 2 seconds on the first slide and then stops. It does not play in any of the subsequent slides. How do I get the music to continue to play throughout the whole slide show?

Impress is the name for the Presentation section of OpenOffice. I cannot help with your sound problem, as I sometimes use video clips which are only played on a once off basis, never using sound only clips.

I also am having problems getting music to play throughout a slide show. I am using a win7 operating system with impress 3.4.0. The music file I put in the Sound box for the first slide is a .WAV file that will play outside of impress but no sound is heard when the slideshow starts.

I tried inserting Movie and Sound on the first slide but that didn't work. :knock:

Did you try the instructions included in the first post in this thread?

Yes, I took those steps, and the only thing would add is to work for all slides the sound for the other slides than the one where sound is started must be <no sound>. The good news is that I found my problem was in my computer sound system and everything is working fine.

Thanks

4.0.0 on PC windows 7 64 bit

I have an impress (.ppt) file that plays music, from a file created in an earlier version of OO.

Now I cannot access the menu to slide transitions to remove or change the music.

When I click on the slide transitions, nothing happens.

I am thinking something got broken in the "improvements" for 4.0.0

Can you help me here?
SOLVED, I think, but I have a suggestion.
I tried it on my laptop traveling computer, and it worked fine.
So I went back to my desktop. I found that if I just do slide transitions, nothing happens. BUT, if I go to the VIEW and activate the sidebar, then it works. BINGO. However, my suggestion is that:
If someone clicks slide transitions, and sidebar is not activated, that they not be deadended there with no reply.
My suggestion is to open the side bar, and have the side bar window tell you how to go to view to disable it when you are done, or else, maybe better, just give you an option to click to close the side bar when you are done with transition changes.

Onward and upward.

I have an impress (.ppt) file

The files with extension"ppt" are not native Apache OpenOffice/LibreOffice Impress files.
If you using opensource office suites, you must ALWAYS save your documents into NATIVE (ODF) formats. If you need another formats, make a COPY of the original documents into the foreign format(s).

Nevertheless, possible to: it is a bug. Try it with another versions of ApacheOpenOffice or Libreoffice, or LO Portable.
Or: If you can upload your example file here, we can try it with various versions of the Office suites.

PortableApps, WinPenPack: LO3.3.0-LO5.4.3 and AOO4.1.4
Please, edit the topic's initial post, and add the word "[Solved]" at the beginning of the subject line - if your problem has been solved.

Thanks, but it works either with .ppt or the OO native format if the sidebar is activated.
