[Solved] Adding pages to a PDF

Post by SexySciencegal »

Hi all, I'm creating a PDF document from many different sources (Word processing / Spreadsheet) and I need to create a PDF to which I can add other pages of PDF. The help notes tells me I can do it but has no information on how. Thanks in advance for your help.

PDF isn't designed to be a dynamic file type. It is best considered as an 'electronic printed page'. They were never intended to be edited in the way that, say, a word processor file can be re-edited again and again. Much better to edit the original source document and create a new PDF when required.

If I were you I think I'd create a single document that has all of your content in it and then create the PDF from that. A Writer document might be the best bet, depending on what type of content you need to include. You can embed spreadsheets within Writer, of course.

1.: You can use PDFCreator, or other virtual PDF printer software for this task.
2.: You can embed the Spreadsheet document into the Writer document, and then you can export it to PDF format.
3.: You can export each documents into pdf format, and the you can merge the pdf documents by a pdf merge software (for example: PDFtk - PDF toolkit)

I would except that some of the documents I only have as PDF files. I have to submit a big tender in PDF format and I'm adding lots of different documents together as they will only accept one single PDF file.

PDF Merge... I'll check that out now.

Thanks for your help :)

Looking in the program page http://www.pdflabs.com/tools/pdftk-the-pdf-toolkit/
"Pdftk allows you to manipulate PDF easily and freely. It does not require Acrobat, and it runs on Windows, Linux, Mac OS X, FreeBSD and Solaris."
Download and unpack: pdftk-1.44-src.zip (~1.3MB)
Review the pdftk GPL license information in: license_gpl_pdftk/readme.txt.
Review the Makefile provided for your platform and confim that TOOLPATH and VERSUFF suit your installation of gcc/gcj/libgcj. If you run apropos gcc and it returns something like gcc-4.5, then set VERSUFF to -4.5. The TOOLPATH probably doesn’t need set.
Change into the pdftk sub-directory,
.....
Mac OS X systems: run make -f Makefile.OSX-10.6
.....
Reduce the resulting filesize with strip, e.g.: strip pdftk.exe

Seems not too much complicated.
