How to edit pdf document

Post by jwg »

I have downloaded and installed the extension for importing pdf. I used the extension manager to do this. Supposedly on can use it to make minor edits to text. When I open the draw program I don't see any file entry for using the extension. Does this mean that if I simply open a pdf document using open office that the extension is used automatically? When I open the pdf it looks ok in the draw program but their is no indication that it is anything but a bitmap. For instance I thought that each line of text would be in a text field using this extension. Unless the extension is used automatically, I guess I just don't get how to access the extension. I'm using Open Office 3.0. I The name of the extension I downloaded is "sun-pdfimport.oxt".

Hi and welcome to the forum!

Is the PDF a scan with a big picture of a text? If so, no way to get the text (except with an OCR, but that's another story).

NB: so many topics about that, don't forget to search the forum first.

Thanks for the reply. The pdf is a rental application form. It is a standard pdf document. So I'm not sure what you mean when you ask is it a scan. As far as I can tell once it is opened in draw it is one big picture. That's why I was wondering about how to use the extension. For example I saw somewhere that it is best to open it as a hybrid document. I saw a picture of a dialog box in which one had choices. As I said in my first post I can't find any way to access the extension. Should there be some kind of an entry under a menu? At the end of the original pdf there is a section to type in stuff as an addendum to the form. Some one did this before saving the form as a pdf document. I want to change what was typed in. Should I be able to do this using open office?

There is no action from the user to import the PDF AFAIK. Can you upload the Draw file made from the PDF (see: How to attach a document here)? It may be a picture sent to foreground. Difficult to say without seeing the file.
